Concealed Shimmer (A TWINJ FF): Chapter-1

All she had was one month. Life was going to change after that. She was supposed to set her feet in the world of criminal justice, the next month. So, a vacation with her two crazy friends before joining the national service seemed fantastic.

The trip which she looked forward to made her getting involved in the world of criminals even before joining the police force.

All the answers to Twinkle’s questions lied with him but he carried those mysteries with a board of ‘Handle-with-care’ hiding their very existence with his charming smile and flirty behavior. Making her always wonder who was Kunj Sarna and what did he want from her?

TWINKLE:

“And the Special Award for overall Best Probationer of the batch goes to Ms. Twinkle Taneja IPS. I request the honorable Chief Minister to present this award to Ms. Twinkle.”, the anchor announced while everyone clapped as I stood from my place.

I went on the stage. Receiving an award in that legendary academy felt Prestigious! All the claps, the music, the drums, the flashlights made it even more special!

It was one of the best moments of my life!

The campus was full of joy. Everyone was smiling. We gave promises to help each other be in contact, as it was our last day as trainees in the academy. After one month, they would post us to different state cadre as DSPs (Deputy Superintendent of Police).

We were a group of three. Avni, me, and Aly. Three of us were passionate about our duty towards the Nation.

Aly’s dad was the CEO of Gupta industries but he wanted to join the Police force. I and Avni were best friends since childhood and we met Aly on our first day of training.

I was going to miss everything about the campus. All the morning hustle-bustle, all the first times while training, sneaking out of the campus, challenges for running, jumping, swimming, target practicing, everything!

As we had one month before we professionally part our ways; we spent that one month together. When we thought about how to spend the vacation, Aly came up with this great idea for a vacation in Kerala. So, we were going to spend most of our time on beaches in Kochi, Munnar, etc which Aly always used to keep blabbering about. I was not ready for it at first but both of them literally threatened me they won’t talk to me for six long months if I denied for the trip so I had to say yes.

I was heading towards the cabin of our director. Mr. Surinder Singh sir was like a grandfather figure to me. He was training IPS officers for almost the last 35 years.

Opening the door of Singh sir’s cabin, I asked permission to enter. Mr. Singh said, “Come in, Twinkle.”

“Good Morning, sir. Actually, I’m leaving today so I came to meet you for the last time.” I enunciated to tell the purpose of my visit.

“That’s sweet of you, beta. I’m sure you will be an amazing Police officer. All the best for the future!” exclaimed Mr. Singh.

“Thank you, sir. I hope we meet soon.”, I expressed with gratitude.

In a conscious tone, Mr. Singh said, “Sure. Twinkle, actually I have some important work so.”

“Oh, okay. So I’ll take your leave, sir. Take care.”, I said not being able to understand the reason behind sir’s behavior.

That was strange. Sir seemed a little disturbed about something. He didn’t seem so restless in the last two years. I wondered what might be the reason behind his worried face?

Maybe he had some other work.

It was almost 10:30 am, and we had a flight at 12:00 pm. My phone started ringing with a call from none other than Ms. Avni Mehta.

Sometimes I so wished to threaten this best friend of mine with a gun cause she used to be such an emotional blackmailer. When I didn’t pick the call, my phone buzzed with her message saying that they were waiting in the cab for me.

She had already taken my luggage without telling ME! Can you all believe it?! Such a control freak she had always been.

I ran with all my strength as I realized the intensity of the lecture I was about to get from my best friend. I disappeared at the right time.

Suddenly, I collided with someone and we both landed on the floor.

I muttered, “Idiot. Can’t you see? I was-” But I halted, as if I was at a loss of words suddenly.

I felt captured by a golden brown pair of eyes. My eyes widened in surprise as I saw the dilating black pupils surrounded by the golden iris.

I turned my gaze towards the phone in my hand as it again started ringing, reminding me of my current situation.

Before I could react further the person was on top of me stood up and with no pleasantries; he left in the opposite direction. I watched him going towards Singh sir’s cabin in a jiffy. I noticed he was tall, and he was wearing a black shirt and jeans, his face being covered.

I wanted to go back and check on him and sir, but my mind immediately started imagining various scenarios with Avni if I won’t reach near the cab. Perhaps the security would allow no suspected person inside the campus, so I headed towards the exit.

We boarded the flight to Kochi, Kerala. It was just a two-hour journey until we reach the ‘Sea Lagoon Beach Resort’. As we checked in to our rooms, for the obvious reasons, we took a rest for the remaining day.

Shopping, beaches, water sports, we spent an entire week enjoying to the fullest. Finally, I was feeling light.

For the time being, I had uninstalled all the news apps on my phone. Life was stress free. The vacation seemed like a fantastic relaxation before seriously getting involved in our duties with all the dedication. I felt ecstatic for that one week.

All the beach visits, fancy dinners, discos, dance, drinks, everything was exuberantly fabulous!

It was 12: 30 at night. I was in my room. Feeling tired after one heck of a pulchritudinous day, I so needed peaceful sound sleep.

Knock

When I opened the door; my eyes welcomed the somewhat tense faces of my two best friends.

All the sleep went out of the window the moment I took in Avni’s words, “Twinkle, Singh sir is missing.”
