On the 72nd Republic Day of India, our favorite celebs shared their fondest memory of Republic Day in an interview with BT. Here’s what they had to say…
Roopal Tyagi, who is known for her role as Gunjan in ‘Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke’, misses the celebration at school. She says, “I remember during my school days, we used to wear a white kurta and a tricolour dupatta. We would sing and perform at our cultural function that would be held after the flag hoisting ceremony. I still remember the excitement of going to school on the day. Of course, you love your nation throughout your life, but the feeling of patriotism while watching the tricolour being hoisted and the national anthem being sung is incomparable.”
Parineeta Borthakur, known for TV shows like ‘Gupta Brothers’, ‘Swaragini’ and ‘Bepannah’ shares, “As a child, the day signified all things pure and pristine. It was about wearing white kurtas teamed with tricolour dupattas. We would be so excited to get ready for school. I was a part of the choir group and we sang lots of patriotic songs. Besides invoking and reinstating the importance of freedom and the nation turning a republic, it also helped me to get rid of my stage fright. The day would begin with watching the parade on TV followed by a patriotic film with my family. I have ensured that my son has imbibed the same values and understands the importance of the freedom we earned after so many sacrifices. I make him sing patriotic songs on the day and believe that the tradition must go on.”
Romil Chaudhary, who participated in the 12th season of ‘Bigg Boss’, says, “The nip in the air and chilly weather was never a deterrent on this day. As a child, I would wake up early in the morning to celebrate the day with a lot of fervor. R-Day was all about hoisting the Indian tricolour, participating in co-curricular activities at school, and watching the Republic Day parade on TV at home. One could easily notice the spark of patriotism in our eyes and our voices brimming with patriotic zeal.”
Nausheen Ali Sardar, best known for her role in ‘Kkusum’, remembers learning patriotic songs. She says, “My fondest memory of Republic Day is associated with my school. My history teacher, Shanti ma’am used to teach us patriotic songs that we would then sing in front of the school assembly. We would rehearse after school hours and perform on R-Day at 6.30 am! Personally, I love the song, ‘Dil Diya Hai Jaan Bhi Denge’ from ‘Karma’.”
Ankit Gulati, remembers his performance as a national hero during one school function. He says, “My best memory of this day is when I got to play Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and chanted his slogans enthusiastically. I think I was so engrossed in the process of preparing for the part that I took the character way too seriously. I actually felt like a national hero.”
