Hey guys! I know you’re not so happy with that break up between Nandini and her parents. But guys, the title is ‘The Broken Strings’. Have faith in the story. Manik’s P.O.V ~
I couldn’t concentrate on anything. I just flipped through the pages of some book, pretending to read the stuff in it. When in reality, I was only thinking about Nandini.
Just when I had started to discover love, this had to happen. I knew how scared she was of her father. But I had promised her that I would talk to him myself. I would do anything to save this relationship; and here I was, sitting alone in a hotel room, cursing myself and feeling guilty for keeping my mouth shut.
I couldn’t do anything, say anything to her father. I could have at least tried to convince him, but I didn’t. I guess, I wasn’t just ready for it. But Nandini, I knew how upset she was going to be. She was probably hating me that moment for not speaking up. I just hoped, that her father hadn’t been to hard on her.
My thoughts were interrupted with a knock on my door. I looked at the time – it was 12 am. I wandered who would be here at midnight. Sighing, I walked up to the door and opened it.
It was someone totally unexpected – it was Nandini; and she stood right in front of me with a suitcase and a backpack. My eyes darted to her face, which was tear-stained. Light sobs escaped her mouth, as she continued to look at the floor. I was totally confused.
“Nandini…” I spoke, finding the courage to say something and gently placed a hand over her shoulder. But before I could proceed, she burst into tears. Quickly, I wrapped my arms around her. I was yet, beyond confused.
“He didn’t stop me, Manik… he didn’t. He said, that if I wanted to live in that house, I need to learn to live by his rules. I love him Manik, but I just couldn’t do it anymore… I left him, I left that house, my mom… Navya, everyone!” She cried.
That’s when it all dawned upon me. I certainly wasn’t expecting Nandini to take such a drastic step. Earlier that night, when I had asked her to come with me, she had refused saying her family was equally important. But now, she had suddenly showed up at my door saying that she left her family… for whom? For me – a guy she had just met.
It felt horrible to see her cry like that, but I was also relieved that Nandini had finally decided to live her life on her own terms. For me, her happiness meant everything. I was more than happy to take her in.
Later that night, she almost cried herself to sleep. I had made my choice of being with this girl till the end. No matter what she did, I was going to be by her side always, for I loved her.

Nisha’s P.O.V ~
I opened my eyes, only to be blinded by the bright sunlight. I laid on the fluffy bed closing my eyes again. Terrible pain shot through my head. I felt like my eyes were burning, and that’s when it all dawned upon me.
I wasn’t in my own house. I was with Manik. I had left my family to be with the man I loved. I was here, in this hotel room, with Manik. I rubbed my eyes, still hoping that last night was just a dream. But unfortunately, it wasn’t.
My bags laid in the corner of the room. As I was about to get up to change, a certain voice stopped me from doing so. His voice echoed through the room.
“Good morning!” He said cheerfully, and plopped down beside me.
“Good morning, Manik.” I replied, touching his cheeks, feeling the little stubble. He smiled and scooted closer to me.
“C’mon, get dressed. We’ve to leave in an hour.” He said, planting a kiss on my temple. How could I forget. We had to leave. But I had no idea, where…
“Where are we going?” I asked.
“Delhi. To meet my family. You can stay there as long as you want, alright?” He said. I remembered him saying this last night, but who knew then that I was going to be homeless so soon.
Honestly, I had no idea about how we were going to work this out. I couldn’t be a pile on for Manik and his family. By the time I was thinking everything, Manik was on the other side of the room, packing his stuff.
“Manik, I can’t.” I said.
“You can’t, what?” He asked, still stuffing everything inside that one small bag. I sighed.
“I can’t come with you to Delhi.” I said; and just as I had expected, he dropped the shirts in his hands and walked over to me. Taking a seat beside me, he gently took my hand in his.
“Then what are you going to do over here?” He asked. I had no answer to this question. What was I going to do here? Stay in a hotel? I didn’t have money. Go back home? I couldn’t lose my self-respect. I opened my mouth to say something, but no words came out.
“Don’t worry, Nandu. Nobody is going to label you or blame you for anything. My mom knows everything and she understands. In fact, she wants you to come and stay with us.” He said, rubbing circles on my palm. I snapped my head up after hearing this.
“Wait, you told your mom?” I asked, baffled. Nyonika aunty knew about us! He shrugged. I rolled my eyes and clutched my head in my hands. All of this had just gotten worse for me. “Why did you? She’s probably not gonna like me now.” I said as more tears welled by in my eyes.
“Babe, she’s gonna love you. Trust me on that. You don’t have to worry about anything, okay? As long as I am there, nobody can say anything wrong about you.” He said.
I felt a little relieved after hearing this from him. I was unfortunate to have a family who never understood me. But I was equally fortunate to have someone like Manik in my life. I lifted my head up as he wrapped his arms around me.
“Thank you,” I mumbled.
“No, thank you. For coming into my life and making it so beautiful.” He said. I smiled and playfully hit his chest.
“I love you,” I said. He smiled.
No matter how many times I said it, it always felt too less. He had done so much for me already, that just thank you or I love you wasn’t enough.
