Kabir was roaming around, trying his best to find Kunj. His heartbeat was increasing with every passing minute. At that one moment, all he wanted was to get him back fit and fine. He was just about to leave the deserted park, when his eyes fell on a shadow hunched over the edge of a bench. He gasped, taking out his phone and calling the others.
” Guys, I’m here in the park. I’ve found him! ” Not waiting for their reply, he quickly ran towards the bench to find a totally broken Kunj. His heart cried, looking at his brother being in such a state. And deep down, he was blaming himself for everything.
” Kunj! You…. you ok-ay ? ” Kabir stuttered, patting his shoulder. Kunj turned around, his eyes filled with hurt. Regret flashed through Kabir’s eyes, but he was quick enough to hide it.
” Kabir… ” Kunj cried, hugging Kabir, who was taken aback by the sudden hug. ” Kabir, please ask her to talk to me.. Please, I can’t handle her ignorance, her coldness. It’s.. it’s hurting Kabir.. I’ll die yaar.. I… I beg you.. Ask her to talk to me just once.. Please, Kabir.. ” He trailed off, crying, while Kabir had a hard time controlling his own tears. Others, who had came just moments ago, could feel their hearts shattering. Two of the most strongest people they’d ever seen were in tears in front of them, and that was enough to break their hearts.
” Shh… Kunj, calm down. Don’t worry.. I’ll talk to her, I promise. Just stop crying.. ” Kabir tried to pacify him, still controlling himself from breaking down. It pained him to an extent that he wanted to run away from there, at least the pain would stop. But he couldn’t. He cared too much to run away at that time.
” Really ? ” Kunj looked up at Kabir, his face full of innocence.
” Yes, Kunj. I promised you, right ? ”
” Hmm… Thank you, Kabir. ” Kunj gave him a tired smile, before passing out.
” Guys, we need to go back now.. Akash! You take Kunj and Sara with you, I’ll be back in a while.” Kabir instructed, making Akash nod, as both the boys laid Kunj down in the backseat. Akash nodded at Kabir once again, before leaving with Sara.
Kabir sighed, sitting down at a bench. Viti sat beside him, keeping her hand on his shoulder.
” Kabir… ”
” Did you hear him, Viti.. He.. he was talking to me again.. He.. he hugged me, Viti. My baby brother. It felt just like old times.. ” He whispered, as a tear rolled down his cheek. ” I can’t even tell you how badly I hate myself right now! Only if I had done something to stop him that day, all this wouldn’t have happened. I feel so ashamed Viti! Twinkle is like a little sister to me, still I let that monster hurt her. She’s in pain, Kunj is in pain, all of us are in pain, all because of me.. I feel so guilty.. ”
” Kabir, sambhalo khud ko.. If you’d break, who’ll handle those two, haan ? You promised me that you will help me unite those two, right ? ”
” I don’t know, Vi.. I knew he would give her pain, still I let him break her heart. I destroyed everything, Viti. I wish I had stopped him. Veer was my own brother, my damn blood! And I did nothing to stop him from doing this! Heck, I don’t even know what exactly happened last year.. I’ve been trying to hunt him down since so long, it’s been a whole year, still no result!! ” Kabir growled, glaring angrily at the sky.
” Kabir, it was not your fault only. All of us knew that Veer was a player, still we didn’t stop him. We thought that the Playboy Malhotra had changed for her. But we were wrong. He broke her heart! And Kabir, it’s not only you who wants to punish him for this.. ” Her voice was dark and low, giving chills to even Kabir.
” Not only punish him, Viti. I want to kill him for what he did! He’ll face my wrath this time. ”
” But for that, we need to know what happened, Kabir. Twinkle won’t open up to anyone but Kunj. We need to unite them first. He’s the person whom she still trusts the most and cares for. Or else she won’t have asked her P.A. to find Kunj and send you his location. She still cares.. ” Both had small smiles on their faces, remembering how Twinkle had helped them without letting them know. Or that’s what she thought anyway.
” Yeah.. So I think we need to do something to make her open up to him, haan ? ” Kabir asked with a chuckle, as Viti’s eyes twinkled.
” Yay! We’re gonna play Cupid. I’m so excited!! ” Both chuckled, before getting up and moving towards their car.
” Akash! He’s burning up with fever.. ” Sara yelled, sitting beside Kunj and putting some cold strips on his forehead.
” I know! That’s why I’m trying to call the doctor. ” Akash shouted, making Sara give him a look of disbelief.
” What is your profession, Mr. Singhania ? ” Her extra sweet voice alerted him, as he kept the phone aside and his eyes widened as dinner plates.
” Oh no! I’m a doctor too. God!! I can’t believe I forgot that.. ” Akash shook his head, making Sara giggle. He was about to sit beside Kunj, when the bell rang. Akash went to open the door, as Vibir came in. The trio moved towards Kunj’s room, to find him moaning in pain.
” Akash, is he okay ? ” Viti asked worriedly, sitting beside Sara.
” No guys! He has high fever and all the alcohol in this system is not helping at all! I’ll give him some medicines once he wakes up. ” Akash sat on the other side of Kunj, while Kabir took the nearby chair. All the four sat in silence for a few minutes, looking away from each other.
” Guys, it’s been a while since I have been wanting to say this… I’m sorry.. I know Kunj doesn’t like me for whatever happened back then, but believe me! I never wanted Veer to hurt Twinkle. I’m just… sorry.. I don’t even know what else to say.. ” Kabir looked down in shame, as the trio stared at him.
” Kabir, we know it wasn’t your fault. It wasn’t anyone’s fault. It was just meant to happen. I know we could’ve stopped that from happening, but we can’t change anything now. All we can do is just make Twinkle her old self. ” Akash whispered, as the other three nodded.
” He’s right, Bh…Bhai.. Please don’t blame yourself. All we need to do is help Kunj in making Twinkle open up. We need to set things right before it’s too late.. ” Sara passed him a hesitant smile, while Kabir got up and gave her a side hug.
” I missed you, baby sis.. ” He closed his eyes to hide the tears, but they all knew better.
” I missed you too, Big Bro. ” Sara replied, as both pulled away. Since the time Kabir had met Sara, she had been like a baby sis to him. Both he and Kunj didn’t have any sis, and she filled that empty place in their hearts and lives. The trio loved each other dearly, until the day came when it all got destroyed.
Slowly the time passed away, the clock ticking in it’s usual rhythm, and soon it was almost morning. None had moved from where they were sitting, just waiting for Kunj to wake up.
” Ahhh.. ” Their attention was diverted towards the source of the painful sound, only to see Kunj squirming in the bed, sweat beads visible on his forehead. Soon after a while, he opened his eyes, only to see four worried people staring at him intently.
” Kunj, are you okay ? ” Sara asked worriedly, but was responded with silence.
Kunj’s P.O.V
I woke up to a pounding head and blurry vision. My whole body felt weak, as if I was seriously unwell. Blinking my eyes to clear my vision, I looked up to see Sara and Akash siting on my either sides, and the two people whom I never wanted to see again!
Kabir and Viti, who were once the most important people of my life, were there by my side, giving me worried glances. I knew they were nervous, it was all reflected on their faces.
Bhai!
I had the sudden urge to call him that, but then restrained myself. No! It took me a long while to build this wall around my heart, I can’t let them affect me now.
Whom are you even trying to fool Mr. Sarna ? Others or your own self ?! Mocked my conscience.
No! I’m not fooling anyone. I hate them, I hate Kabir!

Shut up! Just shut up!!
I could feel the anger rushing through my veins. No, don’t burst, Kunj. Don’t. Don’t. Do-
” Kunj ?? ” Kabir asked, concerned.
” What the f**k are you doing here ?! Who gave you the permission to enter my house, Mr. Malhotra ?! Just get your face out of my sight right this instant! ”
Oh no I didn’t!
Kabir’s P.O.V
Kunj yelled at me, and I could just feel my heart breaking. Bit by bit, piece by piece. My eyes watered, but I controlled myself. Kabir, get a grip over yourself. You’re known as THE Monster Malhotra. You know how to hide your emotions.
Hide.
That’s what I’ve been doing all my life. Hiding from the truth, hiding from the reality, hiding from my actions, hiding from the consequences, hiding from myself. And all this hiding has brought me nowhere. Here I am, standing in front of my brother, who could once sacrifice his own life for me, was now just about to kill me.
And it pained. It hurt. But as they say, Karma is a b*t*h! I was the one responsible for their pain, all of them were suffering because of me. And the pain which those words had inflicted upon me, is nothing in front of the pain I gave to Kunj. I made him suffer, worse than hell. The moment I saw him at the park in such a state, I knew I was responsible for all of this. And I knew that the pain which I’ve caused him won’t ever go away. Even if I clear all the mess, the pain will stay. The pain, the longing, the regret, the separation of all those months will stay. It won’t change.
I’m sorry, bunny!
I didn’t want to cause any more pain, I had to clear this once and for all. I felt so ashamed that I couldn’t even look up at anyone of them. But I had to.
But before I could even look up at him, Sara interrupted.
” Kunj! What are you even saying ? Do you even realize that you’re talking to Kabir Bhai ?! ” Sara was disappointed, while Kunj was angry. Not a good combination. No. Not at all!
” Sara..? ” I could easily sense that hurt in his voice which he miserably tried to hide.
” Guys, don’t fight. Please.. Not for me. I’m not worth any of it. ” I was just about to tear up, and they knew that. So quickly giving Akash a small tap on his back, I moved out of the room, followed by Viti.
Veer Malhotra, I destroyed everything just because of you. I feel ashamed to call you my brother. I won’t leave you Veer!
The air was thick inside the room, as Sara and Kunj looked at each other with painful eyes. Akash was not so sure about what he should do at that moment, so he just continued to look between the two. Kabir had left the room a couple of minutes ago, followed by Viti, leaving behind an uneasy silence.
” Akash! ” Sara broke the silence, looking away from Kunj. She closed her eyes, taking in a deep breath, before giving him a nod and moving out of the room.
Akash stared at Kunj, who was looking ahead with a straight face.
” Kunj, don’t spoil your present just because of your past. I don’t know what made you hate Kabir, but I know how much you love him and care for him, even though you don’t show it. I know he might have hurt you a lot, but it’s not like he’s enjoying there. He’s in pain as well. His heart is crying too, Kunj. Please, just give it a try… ” Akash whispered, giving him a pat on his shoulder in reassurance, before moving out.
Kunj turned around, looking at himself in the mirror, his eyes containing some unshed tears, some unanswered questions, and some unsaid pleas. Oh how he wanted to go to Kabir and hug him. If it would have been their childhood, he would have just forgotten everything and jumped on his brother’s back. But adulthood does complicate so many things and relations. That’s why they say, childhood is the best time of a person’s life!
~You don’t know pain until you’re staring at yourself in the mirror with tears in you eyes and begging yourself to just hold on and be strong. THAT is Pain~
