Vidisha Srivastava who is known for her role as Anita Bhabi in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai will not be in her hometown Varanasi this time to celebrate her favorite festival, Holi.
In a recent interview with BT, the actress talked about how big the festival is there and shared, “Exchanging homemade delicacies during festivals is like a tradition in Uttar Pradesh. I have countless memories of Holi. Holi is one of my favorite festivals, and this year, it is extra special as I enter the show Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai as the new Anita Bhabi. Hailing from Varanasi, this festival of color holds a special place in my heart as it is celebrated in the city with so much zeal and zest. The beautiful Ganga ghats look more mesmerizing on the day of Holi as they are covered with gulaal. But the fondest memory to share would be making gujiyas with my mother and then going to my neighbors to distribute them. Also, dancing to Holi songs with my siblings on the terrace and throwing colour on each other are memories that still make me smile and cherish.”
She added, “In Uttar Pradesh, Holi is celebrated in a big way as it is stretched over two days. The celebration starts with Holika Dahan when a great bonfire is lit to commemorate the victory of good over evil, just like in most parts of the country. But there is one interesting ritual I would like to share that we would do during this time in Varanasi. We would throw ubtan into the fire, which is a paste made with besan and mustard seeds with the belief that it will keep people disease-free for the year. Also, the next day, Holika ash is put as a tilak on the forehead, and then the entire city gets colorful, as wherever you turn your eyes, you will see colors. Holi in UP is a different experience as they enthusiastically celebrate the festival. For me, the best part of being in Varanasi on the day of Holi is seeing the colorful vibes all over town and eating delicious food made by your loved ones.”
When asked how she will celebrate Holi this year, she replied, “We have a day off on Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai on that day. But due to my other commitments, I will not be able to travel to Varanasi this time. But I am excited about celebrating Holi this year in Mumbai as my family is here in the city on the day of the festival. Also, some parties are taking place in Mumbai this year, which could not happen due to COVID in the last two years. So, I may attend one to spend some time with my friends. However, I will miss the vibes of my hometown this Holi, ‘Kyunki Banaras ki Holi ki toh baat hi kuch aur hai’!”
