Analysis – What’s the reason for the decline of Star Bharat as a channel?

Star Bharat was launched on 28 August 2017 replacing Life OK.

Some channels which have always managed to be on the top, and provide different and unique shows for its viewers, Colors TV and StarPlus are rivals with both pros and cons. While channels like Zee TV, Sony TV, and Sony Sab are still trying,

Star Bharat even tough a unit of Star TV Network, has miserably failed in its attempt to achieve good TRP and provide it’s viewers with fresh concepts.

I discuss the reasons due to which Star Bharat failed as a channel:

  • Lack of New Content

While many channels try to showcase as many different stories as they can on their channel, Star Bharat doesn’t have much shows airing always.

  • Lack of Promotion

The promotion is not upto the mark when compared to its competetive channels. They really need to increase promotion rates.

  • Ending shows abruptly

While I agree that shows which have low TRP must be axed off, Star Bharat in a weird move ended many of its successful shows like Meri Gudiya, Kya Haal Mr.Panchal etc.. (Owing to the lockdown situation) But, I feel they must have run for a longer period of time

  • Lack of reality shows

While Sony TV had establishing successful first franchise of some of the most popular shows such as Bigg Boss, Khatron Ke Khiladi, Kaun Banega Crorepati, and Shark Tank, Colors TV then took on BB and KKK. While StarPlus has Nach Baliye, DancePlus, Taare Zameen Par and other reality shows like these, Star Bharat hadn’t even had a single reality show to it’s credit (Due to lack of audience)

  • Remake strategy didn’t work for some reason on Star Bharat

Initially, StarPlus’s popular show, Pandya Store was first planned to release on Star Bharat under a different name (Read complete article here: https://tellyupdates.com/why-is-star-remaking-pandian-stores-twice-in-hindi/amp/…) But then, it released on StarPlus with the same name and Star Bharat made a show called Gupta Brothers with same story. But, it was soon axed when StarPlus announced the launch date of Pandya Store. Star Bharat also made a hindi remake of Bhojo Gobindo on it’s channel titled ‘Jai Kanhaiya Lal Ki’ but it was too axed after few months of airing.

But, I must admit, StarPlus has many successful shows which are based purely on remakes of popular shows of Bengali channel Star Jalsha. It’s highly successful and some shows like Anupamaa is the remake of Sreemoyee, Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin the remake of Kusum Dola, Imlie the 2nd remake of Ishti Kutum, Saath Nibhaana Saathiya 2 follows the story of Ke Apno Ke Por, Aapki Nazron Ne Samjha and Shaurya Aur Anokhi Ki Kahani which are the remakes of Saanjher Baati and Mohor respectively.
