THE STORY OF US – Chapter 21 by Sana || Calm Before the Storm ||

I stared at the beautiful ring on my finger. It was diamond and have a love in the middle with the letter ‘S’ and ‘A’ in a star. I was staring it at for the millionth time. Just when Shivaye proposed was the moment I want to freeze. Everyone was happy including dad. The smile on his face told me he is proud of me and he is happy as well.

“I’m so proud of you and my last wish is fulfilled. I’ve got the best daughter in the world.” He kissed my cheeks and gave me a hug.

Sahil insisted that a dance should be there so a light music was set on in the background while Shivaye and I danced. He was a great dancer and I tried my best to stand with him. I just looked into his eyes and my body moved in sync with his. He smiled before passing me to my dad.

“I’m great dancer you know. I learnt dance to impress your mom.” He chuckled before twirling me around. My parents love story was one like in the cliche stories. Mom was from a poor background and supported her family by working at a young age. She used to dance in an academy and my father was the sponsor of it. Love at first sight as his says happened there and he did everything to impress her. That really did a lot of help because he learnt to cook, sing a bit, dance and even laundry. Mom held back herself from falling for him because she thought she would never fit in his rich world but then they started hanging out and fell in love. It was a beautiful story and everytime he repeats the story he would have this great smile that says that he is still madly in love with her and marrying her was the best decision he made in life but God didn’t bless them to be together for years. I was a every day reminder of her to him.

“Do you know what’s the speciality of this day?” Dad asked me and I shook my head. “Today is the when I proposed your mom 25 years ago.” He smiled and that is wow.

He passed me to little Sahil and that was time I have to take the lead but you know the young man here have a ego bigger than his house. “I know how to dance.” He said and took my hand in his and swayed his hips. “I love you di.” He kissed on my cheek and smiled.

All the mens including Sahil joined their hands and ran around me in circle. What good did I do to deserve all this? Happy tears made their way to my cheeks and I wiped it with the back of my hand. They all wrapped their hands around me and we stayed like that for a while…like a family.

Everyone went to bed after that or maybe not everyone. I stayed back with Shivaye and we laid down on the grass in the backyard. It is because of him a usual day like this became memorable and most cherished day. “Thank you Shivaye, I love you.” I said before letting sleep take me.

It’s been three days after that and everything is good. Sahil left for school in the morning and Shivaye went back to Delhi for an emergency meeting but only promising he will back tomorrow before the sunrise. Dad insisted to go and check his office.

He looked better and happy. His face is brighter today and I don’t know but I saw a ray of hope in him while looking at those eyes which looked out for me. All I wish is see is a few more years because I know that all the human beings are mortal and temporary.

One day we all are asked to leave this world and the person we loved behind and go away to another world where all our deeds are judged. I always believed in god and sometimes praying to him with my hands folded made me relaxed and hopeful. I went to temple today and thanked him for making Shivaye come into my life and also prayed for longer life for my dad and success and happiness for everyone including Sahil.

I was sitting now on the kitchen counter eating an apple while lazily I scrolled through my phone. There was two missed calls from Rudra. I dialed back quickly and he attended it after three rings.

“Hello, how are you? If you are calling me to enquire if I’m free today then I must tell you I’m not. I have a date with a girl today. So you are late and call me back-” he went to blabbering and Oh my god, when will this boy grow up?

“Shut up Rudra. One more word then I will kill you.” I said.

“Ooh, it’s you Anika bhabhi. I just thought it was one of the girls you know who are my fans and-”

“Will you ever close that big mouth of yours and for your kind information, I’m not your bhabhi and in the present I’m your bhaiya’s fiancee.” I told and took a bite from the apple.

“Whatever.” I can imagine him rolling his yes. “How are you di? And wow, my bhaiya proposed you right? That’s so unexpected and yeah I knew it before. I really knew it.” He said.

“Knew what?”

“I knew he was reading my book ‘How to impress a girl and surprise her.” he said and seriously, when do Shivaye has time for this? Shivaye would never have time for it.

“So, what else?” I asked and jumbed off the counter and walked to the living room and switched on the tv.

“Hey did you just switched on the TV?” He asked and I wondered if he is hiding behind any of the pillar or something.

“Yep.” I said popping the ‘p’ and sitting down on the couch. ” How do you know?” I asked looking around.

“Dumbass.”

“Did you just say your name because there is obviously one person and thats you.” I laughed.

“Don’t tease too much, okay? It’s not good for your health.” He said and it’s proves there no bigger idiot than him.

“Okay docter.” I chuckled.

“I heard Deepika Padukone’s voice and that’s how I guessed.” He said and okay maybe he isn’t that much stupid.

“I’m watching my favourite movie ‘Yeh Jawaani Yeh Deewani’ y’know that Deepika Padukone is lead actress in it.” I rolled my eyes.

“Wow, that’s mine too. Our ‘Aniru’ bond is increasing and that’s a good thing.” He said.

“Aniru?”

“Yes, Anika+Rudra=Ani+Ru=Aniru.” He explained and if I had a glass of water in my hand then I would have spit it out by then.

“That’s ….” I wondered for the right word but stopped when I realized that there will not be a word to define him.

“Incredible, Ikr!” He said and if he was next to me I would have smacked his head.

“Whatever helps you in your sleep.” I laughed and continued “bye to my second favourite future brother in law. Have a great day.” I chuckled before hanging up but only after hearing him mutter “I know you are kidding.”

When evening rolled in, I went to Whiteline to see the progress of my work. The design I made is for a large house here. I was satisfied with it and the smile on my face said it all. I bought a coffee from the cafe while talking to Shivaye. He would be here in the morning.

It was late night when I reached back to home. Sahil and dad would be probably sleeping and I have called them early and told that I will be late so that they won’t be worried.

I switched on the light of my room and took a shower. While standing there with water falling on my body I thought about my life and how quickly everything changed in a span of time from Shivaye came. Earlier in the morning when the doctor called I had mentioned about his improved health and also happy face. He said that it’s a good thing but then again it is last stage and it is only once in a blue moon a person survive from it. I shook my head and came outside in my black pyjamas.

I laid down there with my eyes closed and took a deep breath. I heard some sort of sound from the other room but it would be my stupid imagination. I tried to sleep again but then I heard someone coughing. I got out of the bed quickly and with shaking hands opened the door of dad’s bedroom. ‘Everything is alright.’ I muttered to myself and then there I knew it.

“Dad…”

Hello to my favourite people! I’m sorry If I’m again late but this week there was exams, school festives and also Eid. A belated Eid Mubarak to everyone and also Happy Onam to all the keralites. If any festives happening around I’m wishing all of you. How are you? My schools closed for seven days but there is no luck since I have extra coaching classes from tomorrow. Thank you so much for everything and you would probably hate me after this chapter but you know I want to make it a little realistic but then again I don’t know if I’m making any sense!
