He parted away breaking the hug.
Anika was refraining her tears and smiled. “I am not letting my crush spoil our friendship. Well, a crush isnt that big a deal it was just a mis understanding. He wasnt proposing me. He isnt into me. Im just over-reacting” she self-assures herself in mind.

“You aren’t in you fifth month of pregrancy are you? (Contols his laughter) Anika gives him a angry look.

“Nothing.. but you get a lot of mood swings. You are happy the first second and crying the next” he says and starts laughing.

Anika just smacks on the back of his head and tries to leave.
He holds her by her elbow and stares right into her eyes.

“Whatever be it. Dont you ever cry. I cant see you crying!” He says making Anika jaw drop.

“I mean.. i cant see anyone crying. I just dont like these.. these..” (he points to her tears. ) She giggles. He smiles and bids her goodbye.

Anika had taken a day off to go for his shopping, while shivaay had come in the middle of his work.

She was feeling alright now. But she kept thinking about that moment.

“Chiii.. how stupid i’ve been. It was an engagement ring that someone else had arranged to propose his girlfriend. It came to me by mistake. How senseless am i to think shivaay would be proposing to me. Like.. we know each other only two weeks back. Became his friend only a day before and it is ridiculous of me to imagine him doing that.. he must be thinking about me as a loyal friend. I should probably behave like one” She rants on her mind for a minute.

Later the next minute,

“But i dont regret the fact that he is handsome. I can keep looking at those deep blue-green ocean eyes of his the whole day. His perfectly angled hair strands, his held-high face, his mesmarising voice, his …. wait a minute!! Chi Anika!!!!!! Stop crushing him for god’s sake.” She shrinks her face and jumps on the floor with frustration.

2minutes later,

“He is my friend, and will be my friend”

10minutes later,

“He kissed on my forehead last night. It felt sooo…ERRRRRRR STOP IT ANI!”

20minutes later,

“He was being a very good friend teaching me how to cook”

30 minutes later,

“I hope his date night sucks. My goodness. Someone save me from this crush fever!!!!”

She says and falls down on her bed facing the roof. Quickly making a video call to Gauri, she was preparing herself to clear her doubts.

“Oii fatty, i have told you not to call during my class hours. Im busy whiling away my time in this irritating maths period. If that witch maths professor comes to know that im using my phone inbetween class, she’ll get me suspended.” Gauri spats with a not-so-angry tone.

“Gauri, gauri… you are my Darling noo.. my sweetheart no… please help me yaar” Anika pleads.

Giving her a seriously curious face, “Darling? Sweetheart? Anika are you alright? OH BETE KI !!! You have Alzheimer’s? Sankarji… my sister has lost her senses!!!” Gauri silent yells and starts crying.

“Nothing like that dumbo. I just want to clarify something. What’s a crush? How is it different from love ? How to stop this thing?” She innocently asks.

“OH MY GOD ! ANIKA!!! YOU FOUND YOUR FIRST CRUSH?????” Gauri goes all hiper and makes squealing noises.

Voice from behind: Gauri!!! Get out!

Rolling her eyes Gauri walks out.
And once she’s out, she happily enters the video call.

“So tell me… who is he??” Gauri asks.
“Aisa kuch bhi nayi he.. i just wanted to know what this crush actually is..” Anika stammers.

“Do you think im that dumb. Come on Anika. I know you better than you know yourself.. Who is he ??”  She asks with rolling her eyes.

Smiling sheepishly..”A guy at my work place” Anika says hiding his identity.

“He must be having a name??” Gauri asks annoyed.

“Errr.. Shivaay singh oberoi” Anika says gulping in.

Immedietly googling, instagramming, facebooking in her adjacent tabs..

•Shivaay singh oberoi.
•Has two brothers and a sister.
•Born, studied and graduated from mumbai.
•likes to stand on his own legs.
•currently resides in bangalore.
•is rumoured to be spending time with his new girlfriend on the streets of banglore today at noon.

“Oiiiiii stop it!!!! Not so deep with someone’s personal life please. I just wanted to know whether this is crush or not what i am having..” She speaks loud.

But now realises that she is rumoured to be his girlfriend now. “Damn.. this guy is famous!!. I cant just casually roam around with him anymore. I am making it to the headlines. Good thing im not named anywhere.” She mentally slams herself.

“Fine!! One easy way to find if it’s a crush.” Gauri sighs. “And what is that??” Anika asks curiously.

“BUTTERFLIES” Gauri says.

Anika shrugs her shoulders expressing a “what does that mean?” kind of action.

“You will feel butterflies in your stomach when you see him” Gauri winks.

“Bullshit! Just because im new to such feelings dont play with me” Anika warns.

“Fine. Dont beleive me. Experience it yourself and then fall on my feet. And hey!!! i have messaged you Advaay’s number. He is back from Australia!!!!!. He resides nearby your workplace itseems. Go meet him and tell him to courier me all the foreign chocolates” Gauri says a wide smile and cuts the call.

“Foreign chocolates?? Uff.. this couch potato will never change. And wow.. if’s Advaay here i can definitely distract my mind from shivaay” Anika says to herself taking in a deep breath at last.

She opens her Whatsapp and saves Advaay’s number as “Idiot#1”

Quickly making a call to that number,
“Hello? We are calling from ICICI bank. Do you need any loan, Sir??” She fakes a formal voice.

While on the other side of the call, a man 6feet tall and with a charming small smile, “Yes i would like a loan. So that i could use the money to join you in any mental asylums… Anika.” He says with his honey layered voice.

“Gadhe!!!.. you always find if it’s me” She says with a jaw drop. He chuckles.

“Fine. Gauri told me you are here. Message me your address. We’ll meet tomorrow. And hey.. how was Australia??” She enquired.

“Beautiful just like you!” He fakes a flirty voice.

“You never change uh?? You have a girlfriend remember?? Pity she chose You” Anika laughs.

“Mallika’s my darling. No wonder we’ll be getting married by this year end. Until then i can flirt, you know.. she wont mind me flirting with her bestie” Advaay again fakes a flirty voice saying the last line.

“Besharam” Anika says and chitchats for a while before disconnecting the call.

She hears the door creaking open.
“Now now now… please obey your master. Im the one feeding you for the past 25 years. If you take shivaay’s side and send me any butterflies.. i wont feed you.. so dont you dare send your butterflies!!” She says bending down and warning her stomach.

Shivaay enters with a wide smile. Anika avoids eye contact as much as possible.

“I hope you are feeling completely alright now ? Jeez.. you scared me this evening” he says and comes near Anika pulling her into a hug.

He casually leaves her and enters the kitchen for food.

“Phail gaya raita. Butterflies!!!” Anika says and burries her face in her hands.
