Chapter 3
Salt, Sugar and midnight Cookies!

Avni Opened the door and let Neil go in first.

“I will have to go and have a wash first, and then I’ll make dinner” said Avni.

Neil noded and turned the Tv on.

“Be quick..I’m hungry”

Avni came dressed and went straight into the kitchen.

“I’m making pasta” Said Avni.

“Fine..” said Neil “Bring it to my bed”

“What?” asked avni in anger “Now I am your slave too?”

“My house-my rules” smirked Neil.

Avni gritted her teeth and started making pasta.

“Food is here” said Avni.

Avni peeped into his room. He was sleeping.

“I’ll keep this here” mumbled Avni as she kept the bowl of pasta on the table beside the bed.

Avni turned and looked at Neil. He was shivering. Avni looked up.

“Oh my It’s raining..and he has left the window opened again!”

Avni closed the window and covered Neil in a blanket.

“Now I can finally taste my food” said Avni.

She took a spoonful and put it into her mouth. But within seconds she spat it out again.

“Yuck!” She moaned. “Why does it taste so sweet?”

Avni ran back to the kitchen. There she saw the jar of sugar.

“Wait..then where is the salt?” she asked herself.

She searched all around the kitchen for salt. When she opened the last cupboard she saw an unopened packet of Salt.

“Oh no!” she cried in disbelief. “I can’t beleive I have mixed up salt AND sugar!!”

“Neil!!” she knocked on the closed door of Neil’s bedroom

Neil came and opened the door. Avni ran inside.

“Neil..did you..” asked Avni.

“Did I what..?”

“You know..eat…you know..?”

Neil stared at her.

Neil took a bowl. “You mean this..?” he asked.

Avni noded with a gasp.

“I’m sorry” she said trying not to cry.

“is this pasta? um…I thought it was toffee” Neil laughed.

Avni stormed off.

After clearing everything in the kitchen,while crying, Avni sat on the couch and cried alone.

“Why did this happen to me?”

Suddenlt she felt a hand stroking her hair. She looked back. It was Neil.
Avni pushed his hand away.

“Avni-”

“No..Neil I don’t need your sympathy” Avni shouted.

“Listen Avni..it was a small mistake..why are you worrying so much” asked Neil coming closer to Avni.

“It’s just..you praised me so much..and I-” said Avni crying again.

“Avni…I think..you should catch up on your sleep” said Neil

“And Neil” Avni started again, not caring about Neil’s words.”You must be hungry”

Neil stared at her.”I’m fine..you know what..I might have a packet of cookies in my cupboard.”

“Ooops..No luck!” said Neil, after searching the whole house.

“Neil you know what?” said Avni suddenly jumping to her feet.

Neil looked at her in confusion.

“Let’s bake some cookies!”

“WHAT?!” Asked Neil surprised. “MORE COOKING?”

Avni nodded.

“This time let’s make it together!”

“Open the flour packet Neil..no no..the other one” demanded Avni.

The kitchen smelled nice. And it was filled with commands, laughter and fails.

“Usually nobody commands me..because I command others at work” said Neil laughing.

“Not at home anymore” smiled Avni.

They stared for a while, still smiling. Avni looked away, by the sudden noice of the oven alarm.

“There comes our cookies!” said Avni.

Neil carefully took the hot cookies out of the oven.

“let them cool for a while!” said Avni, pouring some juice into two cups.

“It was delicious” said Neil, smacking his lips, after finishing his cookies and juice.

“Yep!” agreed Avni.

“But look at the kitchen.” said Neil.

They both looked at the kitchen.

“Oh my!! It’s a disaster”
“Let’s clean up!”

After all the chaos that had happened, Avni was settled back in her couch while Neil was settled down in his bed.

“Avni are you sure-?”

“I’m fine on the couch.”

Neil nodded.

Soon Neil was snoring like a giant. Avni smiled. She remembered all the things that had happened today, Disgusting pasta, Neil’s support and ofcourse baking cookies together.

“Maybe he isn’t so bad afterall!” she mumbled.

Soon Avni went to sleep as well
