Chapter 31
When love strikes !!

Karthik locked his eyes with her but then he immediately turned to the other side. He reminded himself to be angry at her. But he couldn’t help melting for all the efforts she was putting in to convince him.

Naira pouted at him and sat on the bed, folding her hands and keeping her head down. She was pissed off now. She lifted her head when she felt someone’s presence near her. She looked up to see Karthik standing infront her with the bowl of gajar ka halwa.

“I am sorry to hurt you Karthik.” Naira said and held her ears with her hands.

“It’s okay. Even I got carried away in the moment. I shouldn’t have behaved in such a way. So even I am Sorry.” Karthik said and removed her hands from her ears.

“I will never hurt you again.” Naira promised him.

“Even I would never hurt you again.” Karthik said and smiled at her.

He took a spoonfull of the halwa and fed Naira. Naira did the same. They both smiled and ate the sweet.

Karthik was walking in the corridor but his mind was just reeling the events of his marriage with Naira.

After Gayu’s betrayal, only he knew how much depressed he was. The walls of Goenka Mansion which knew only happiness drowned in agony and he was the only reason for that.

Gayu had insulted almost everyone in the house. Sometimes, he opposed her but most of the time, he kept mum. For his one wrong step, everyone in the family suffered yet he had a good belief that he can change his beloved wife but the worst breakdown for him was the divorce.

She was all happy even after that, after crushing his heart. Every family member was just tensed for him. Of course, they never let their emotions out but he is their son afterall.

In the heat of the moment, he tried to commit suicide so that everyone will stay happy after that. But as said, destiny is the most powerful betrayal one can face. He survived.

Then his father brought Naira into his life. By knowing about her background, he rejected the marriage but his father insisted infact declared the marriage against his wish.

At first, he had a hope that she might help him forget his past but her gestures were just opposite. He understood about her being uncomfortable infront of him.

Intentionally, he never talked about Gayu infront of her because of two things. One is that he didn’t want her sympathy and second, it may sting her because he experienced the same when Gayu was close to someone else.

But after few months, he started liking Naira’s company. At first, he thought that it’s just because they have been staying together for a long time but gradually he realised that her smile itself makes his heart as light as cotton.

For some unknown reason, he always tried to finish his work fast so that he can get home and just spend his time admiring her. Even though there were no intimate moments, there was some spark between them which he didn’t even experience with Gayu.

Naira’s happiness is what started to matter to him the most and guilt started engulfing him for hiding about Gayu and hence he shared everything with her that night. He still doesn’t know why, but he felt so relieved after sharing his pain with her.

When he got to know that Naira waited for him to give him company for dinner, his heart swelled with happiness and also with a bit of anger at the same time for staying awake till late night without eating anything. Everything was fine till their dinner but everything got ruined after that.

She used some harsh words for him which he really didn’t want to listen. Atleast from her. It must have not affected him if he would have been the same Karthik who married her but it hurted him because he had started to feel something for her and wanted to be more to her than just a responsibility.

“Do you think she did all this because of love ?!!” He asked himself.

Love ?!! Maybe that’s what he was expecting at the moment. The fact that Naira misunderstood him was still eating him up from inside. His heart prompted again that it might be love but he is a person who doesn’t believe in second love.

He loved Gayatri and now he hates her. That’s all. What if the same happens with Naira ?!! He doesn’t want to end up hating her. She was too nice of a soul to be hurt.

“What type of a person are you Karthik ?!! Love doesn’t have number. What is all this Second Love and all ?!!” His heart scolded him.

He pursed his lips and remembered the events that happened a few minutes ago. His heart ached seeing his wife asking for an apologize. ‘I am the one to be blamed’ he wanted to scream because he was angry with himself for expecting something from her which he didn’t get but the words died in his throat. Why everything about her has started bothering him so much is a big question.

“Because you are in love.” His heart answered the question.

He shook his head clearing the thoughts of Naira. He is sounding like a love sick puppy right now. He walked towards the kitchen deciding on something.

“Where is papa ?!!” Karthik asked Suvarna.

“He is in his study, why ?!!” She asked him while cutting a cabbage.

“I wanted to talk about something.” Karthik said.

Before she could ask anymore, he walked away towards the study and she shrugged her shoulders for his weird behaviour.

So firstly I want to say sorry for the irregular updates this week. I have been busy for the last few days and will continue to be for the next few days as well. So I would be updating only one Chapter every day.

So Karthik has realised his feelings. The next Chapter will have a small Karthik-Manish moment and then the shopping for the Godh Bharai function.
