Episode 35

Pragya goes to the hospital to collect Dadi’s test results.
“Good day. I’m here to collect Daljeet Mehra’s health report.” Pragya said to the receptionist behind the desk. “Just one second Ma’am.” she replied. “I’ll go get it.”
While waiting, Pragya looked around and spotted Akash standing a little distance away.
She walked up to him. “Akash?” Pragya called. “What are you doing here?”
“I- I came to visit a friend.” he said. “What are you doing here, Bhabi?” “I came to collect Dadi’s reports.” Pragya replied.
“You could have told me.’ he said, nervously running his hand through his hair. “I would have picked it up.” What’s wrong with him? Pragya wondered.
He seemed a tad uneasy.
“Are you okay?” Pragya asked.
“Yeah, Bhabhi, I’m fine.” he replied. “Why?”
“Because you seem a bit nervous.” she said.
“Why would I be nervous?” He said, running his hand through his hair once again. “That’s what I want to know.” she said.
“Nothing to worry about.” he said. “I’m good.”
“Ok” Pragya replied.
“So which friend are you visiting?” she asked.
“Oh, I don’t think you would know them.” Akash said.
“Oh” was all she said.
Pragya collected the reports and turned to Akash.
“Okay Akash. I’m heading home now. Hope your friend feels better. Take care ok.” “Ok Bhabi, I’ll be home soon.”
Pragya turned to go, when a Nurse walked up to them and said to Akash, “Mr. Mehra. You can see your wife now.” and then left.

Pragya is stunned!
She turned to Akash.
“Your what?!” she shouted.
“Shhhh! Bhabi” he said, pulling her over to the sitting area.
“Your wife? When the hell did you get a wife?” she said, totally in shock.
“Bhabi, relax!” he said, trying to calm her down. “Relax? You got married and didn’t even tell your family?! Are you insane?!” she said to him.
“Bhabi, I’m not married!” Akash said.
“Then why did that nurse say you could see your wife now?!”
“I will explain everything… but first I need to show you something.” he said. “Come with me.” Pragya followed him into a hospital room.
Her gaze went over to the bed and she saw a familiar face lying there. “Omg…Rachna?” she said softly.
“Yes Bhabhi….Rachna.” Akash replied.
Akash and Rachna were friends in college.
He fell in love with her, but never had the courage to admit his feelings.

Pragya, Purab and Abhi had teased him so many times about his silent love.
They even tried to get him to propose to her, but Akash was always afraid he would be rejected. Soon their college days ended and Akash and Rachna went their separate ways.
Until now…. “What happened to her?” Pragya asked softly.
“Car Accident.” Akash replied. “I was nearby when it happened and brought her here afterward.” “Why did that nurse say she was your wife?” Pragya asked.
“When I got here, they wouldn’t operate on her ’til a family member filled out her admission form.” Akash said. “I tried to contact her family, but got no response.”
Akash continued. “So I told the nurse I was her husband and filled out the form.” “How long has she been in here?” Pragya asked.
“Almost two weeks.” he replied. “How is she doing now?” Pragya asked.
“She’s better now but still needs alot of rest.” he said. “Did you manage to contact her family?”
“Yes. I got through to her brother a little while after Rachna was admitted.”
“Her family must be devastated after getting the news.” Pragya said.
“Yeah and then…” His voice trailed off.
“What happened?” Pragya asked.
“When they asked the nurse about who filled the admission form ….” he said. Oh Oh Pragya thought.

“The nurse said her husband. Her mom asked which husband she was talking about… then the nurse pointed at me.” he explained. “It was a disaster after that. Your reaction was nothing compared to what I had to face with them.” “What did they say?” Pragya asked.
“I tried to explain to them a hundred times that it was a misunderstanding, but these people wouldn’t give me a chance to speak! They think Rachna and I married secretly.”
“Oh my!” Pragya said.
“After trying again to convince them. I finally gave up!” he said.
Pragya walked closer to the bed where Rachna lay asleep.
“Akash?” she said.
“Yeah?” he replied.
“If you didn’t marry her, why is there sindoor in her hairline?”
Akash was silent.
Pragya turned to face him.
“Akash?” she called softly.
“Her mom made a big commotion about why Rachna wasn’t wearing any sindoor.” he said. “I was about to tell her that

Rachna wasn’t married, but the same time the nurse walked in.” “Oh my goodness” Pragya said, covering her face with her hands.
“I couldn’t say anything with the nurse there, so I just did as she asked.” he said. “Soon Rachna would be fine and then we would be able to clear up this whole mess.”
“So where are they now?” she asked.
“They left a while ago, saying they would be back soon.” he said.
“You have to find a way to tell them the truth” Pragya said.
“I’ve tried Bhabhi, but these people don’t listen to anything!”
“Fine” Pragya said. “I will explain it to them this time, ok?” “Thank you, Bhabhi. You’re a lifesaver.”
“Have you been here everyday since her accident?” Pragya asked.
“Yeah” he replied.
“You still love her, don’t you.” Pragya said.
It wasn’t really a question, Akash realized as he heard Pragya’s tone of voice.
He paused for a second and then he nodded.
“I will always love her, Bhabhi.”
Pragya felt his pain. While she and Abhi were happy in their relationship, she still hadn’t gotten his love….
“Did you hear me, Bhabhi?” Akash said, his voice interrupting her thoughts.
“What?” she replied.
“Please don’t tell this to the others.” he said.
“Why?” She wanted to know.
“They would just make a big deal out of nothing, especially Maa.” he said.
He was probably right. Taiji would really make a big issue out of this.
“You won’t even tell Abhi or Purab?” Pragya asked.
“You can tell Bhai if you want to. Will inform Purab tomorrow. Don’t want to disturb them on their party cruise.” Pragya nodded.
“Ok well I should get going. Dadi’s probably waiting on these reports.” she said. “See you at home, ok?” “Bye, Bhabhi.” Akash said.
And then she left.

“What the hell?” Abhi said, as Pragya finished her story. “He didn’t even say anything? I need to speak with him.” He quickly got up off the couch but Pragya grabbed his hand. “Abhi stop!” Pragya said, pulling him back down on the couch next to her. “It’s two in the morning! He’s probably asleep! You can talk to him when he gets up.”
“Fine” Abhi replied. “I’ll talk to him first thing in the morning then.
“And one more thing” Pragya said.
“What’s that?” he asked.
“You can’t tell anyone.” she said.
“Why not?” he asked.
“Because I said so.” she replied.
Abhi looked at her.
“What did you just say?” he asked.

Pragya gave him one of her cute grins and then said,
“I told Akash that I would only tell you. “Now you have to promise me you won’t tell anyone else, ok.” He looked at her, trying to decide if he should obey her or not.
“Ok fine.” he said. “I won’t say anything for now.”
He then rested his head on her shoulder. “You should get some sleep.” Pragya said.
“I’m not sleepy” he replied, stifling a yawn.
He loved being with her like this and didn’t want to move.
“Oh really, she said.
“So what else did you do today?” he asked.
She told him about her daily activities: Spending time with Dadi, Swarna and Indu Daasi….her trip to the movies with

Aaliya….and about the next big event at Aliya’s company.
She chattered on and on…. then realizing he wasn’t saying anything. “Are you listening to me?” she asked.
No response.
She nudged him slightly with her shoulder.
Still nothing.
This idiot fell asleep!
What to do now? she thought.
Should I drag him over to the bed?
Na…too much effort.
She gently laid him back on the couch.
Putting a pillow under his head, she took off his shoes and then covered him with a blanket. She smiled down at his sleeping face, pressed a kiss to his forehead and then went to sleep on the bed….

Little did they know that Akash and Purab were still with the girls.
Purab and Bulbul ending up spending the rest of the night together, talking, while Akash sneaked back to the hospital to be near Rachna, who was finally awake.
It seems as though their love stories have just begun…

There you have it! The start of these two love stories.
I’m not gonna spend much time on this as I still have to write Abhi and Pragya’s story.
So might just finish Rabul and Akna’s tale in a One Shot.
