Chapter 49

Morning, Hotel room

Sanskar woke up with the humming sound….. Swara was in front of him, sitting on the couch chanting some formula’s or something…. He blinked his eyes and stood up “Good morning” he said leaning on the bed post….. hearing him she shifted her gaze from book to him
“Good morning” she replied and again concentrated on her book
Sanskar smiled looking at her nervous face.
“At what time is your exam?” he enquired moving towards washroom
“2:00 o’clock, why you are asking?” she said
“I have to meet someone to discuss about tomorrow’s meeting, so I will drop you first and then meet that person” he explained
“I can go by myself, you do your work” she casually replied
“I am not asking you, so just follow me” he said and then walked in the wash room
Annoyed with his dictatorial attitude, she murmured “Hitler”
“I have heard that Swara” he shouted from washroom
“Good, you should know how I feel when you try to be bossy over me” she snapped
“Instead of wasting your time and energy on cursing me, why don’t you revise for your exam” he stated
She immediately held her book and started giving a quick look to important topics…..

Afternoon, at traffic signal

Swara was worried as it was already 1:15, and they stuck in the jam…. Sanskar noticed her
Sanskar: don’t worry, you will reach there on time….
Swara: how? see the jam is so heavy……
Sanskar: I promise, you will be there for your exam on time
Swara: and how you gonna do that?
Sanskar: (smirk) I know magic….
A small smile appeared on her anxious face by his words, he smiled back to her….. after about 10 minutes they were on the way to examination centre, coming out of jam…… he drove little fast to make it on time……
The car halted in front of JNU campus, Swara’s examination centre….. The place was crowded with students, so many students….
Sanskar: (scanning the crowd) they all came for exam or what? These days kids are really aspiring and ambitious…
Swara glared him as he mention kids, sanskar realized what he said…
Sanskar: I mean young adults….
Swara: better now…
Sanskar: your exam is of 3 hrs na? So that means you will be free around 5:30 to 6:00…. I will be here, call me if it’s early ok…
Swara knew there is no point in arguing with him, so she nodded silently and stepped out of the car…..
“Swara” he called out as she stepped a little further
“hmm” she turned back
“All the best” he stated
“Thank you” she replied and walked out, Sanskar waited until she got disappeared from his sight…

Evening, outside JNU campus

After exam, Swara was waiting for him, standing at a corner when somebody called her name….
“Swara”
She tuned to look at the person and got surprised to see…
“Abhinav!!” she exclaimed…
The young man of well frame and charming personality was smiling to her…. it didn’t take any time for her to recognize him, Abhinav Sharma, her classmate of graduation in Bangalore. A good student and a polite person, this was how entire college knew him. He was among the few charmers of the batch…… they were not best of friends but had a good rapport during College days….
Abhinav: (came up to her) hi Swara, how are you? We are meeting after so long….
Swara: I am fine, and yeah after about 2 yrs….. well how are you?
Abhinav: I am good…. So you are also here for exam…
Swara: yeah, how was the exam?
Abhinav: good but I am sure you will crack it, after all the scholar Swara Bose you are….
Swara: (smiles) it’s nothing like that, I have very little hope…..
Abhinav: So, how’s the life going? After our graduation, you just disappeared, not even your close friends know about your whereabouts….
Swara: yeah I got little busy with the life and after dad’s sudden death, it took me time to be normal
Abhinav: I have heard about uncle, I am sorry…
Swara: it’s ok….

They talked a lot, about everything, their classmates, their teachers, common friends….. It’s always pleasurable when you meet your old friend or classmate, the old memories get refresh and brings a smile to your face…. Abhinav with his amazing sense of humor was cracking jokes in between which made Swara to laugh out loud…..
Oblivious of the surrounding she was laughing like a mad and this is how Sanskar caught her….. Parking the car little away from them, he walked towards the place where they were standing….
Sanskar: (to himself) wow! I was disappointed for being late but seems like she is enjoying a lot unaffected with my absence… how happy she is looking, why she is not same with me…. (shifting his gaze to the boy) Who is he?
“Swara” called out Sanskar as he moved closer to them, hearing his acquainted voice Swara’s smile disappeared, she almost forgot about him…..
Swara: (looking at him) you came??
Sanskar: (blank face) yeah, hope you didn’t get bore waiting for me
Sanskar said staring Abhinav, who was also puzzled with his sudden arrival….
Sanskar: (to Swara) shall we go?
Abhinav: Swara won’t you introduce us?
Swara: I am sorry I forgot…… this is Abhinav Sharma, my friend, we were classmates in graduation and Abhinav this is Mr. Sanskar Maheshwari….
She paused, confused what to say about his relation with her, after a second she said “He is a friend too” Sanskar didn’t expect she will introduce him as her friend, but her unexpected gesture brought a smile to his face….. They greeted each other and then Swara ready to leave but before she could move away Abhinav caller her….
Abhinav: Swara, if you are free will you join me tonight for dinner, I will pick you from hotel
As he finished Swara looked at Sanskar’s face, he was as anxious as Abhinav to know her reply….
Swara: (hesitantly) I would love to Abhinav but have to meet a friend tonight, so couldn’t come…. I am sorry
Abhinav: (smile) It’s ok Swara, no problem…. May be next time, but please give me your contact number…. I don’t want you to get disappear again
After exchanging their numbers they bid final bye and walked out…….
Sanskar: (while driving) why you lied to him?
Swara: I am tired, so I didn’t want to go out….
She said averting her gaze from him, it was strange for her also, she knew it wasn’t the truth…..
“Why I said no to Abhinav, he genuinely asked me…. was I bothered about him? But why I am bothered, it’s my life. I can do whatever I want then why I looked at him before deciding as if his consent matters for me….what he did with me, I shouldn’t have acted like this” she was confused with her own feelings when he interrupted
Sanskar: how was the exam?
Swara: (coming out of her thoughts) it was average, though the paper was easy…. If I had studied little more sincerely then surely I made it but now there are very less chances…
Sanskar noticed her disappointed face…..
Sanskar: it’s ok Swara, why you are so bothered?
Swara: you know very well clearing this exam is how important for me….
Sanskar: you want to do higher studies then go for it….
Swara: (irritated) and how is it possible without scholarship?
Sanskar: (playfully) don’t worry your husband would happily bear all your expenses …..
Annoyed with his teasing, she averted her gaze from him and started looking outside….. rest of the journey they completed quietly without much talk….. Sanskar asked her to have dinner outside and without any reluctance she agreed……. They stopped in front of a famous restaurant to grab a meal….
