Actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu has lent her voice to the cause by sharing a powerful post from the Voice of Women, urging the Telangana Government to release a similar report addressing s*xual harassment within the Telugu film industry. She commended the efforts of the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) in Kerala, whose advocacy led to the formation of the Hema Committee and the resulting report. This initiative was a direct outcome of the #MeToo movement, which exposed numerous instances of misconduct in the film industry.
In her Instagram story, Samantha expressed solidarity with her colleagues in the Telugu film industry, praising the WCC’s relentless work in Kerala that paved the way for this moment. She revealed that, inspired by the WCC, the Voice of Women—a support group for women in the Telugu film industry—was established in 2019. Samantha called on the Telangana Government to take similar action, akin to the steps taken by the Kerala administration.
Her post concluded with a strong appeal: “We hereby urge the Telangana government to publish the submitted sub-committee report on s*xual harassment, which can help frame government and industry policies, to establish a safe working environment for women in the TFI (sic).”
The Hema Committee’s findings have made headlines nationwide, with several celebrities coming forward to share their own experiences of harassment. In the wake of the report, Mohanlal, who served as the chairman of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists, has resigned from his position, leading to the dissolution of the executive committee.
