Mohsin Khan has become a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, especially known for his role as Kartik Goenka in the popular TV show Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. His portrayal of Kartik earned him widespread admiration and fame. In an interview, Mohsin shared his inspiring journey to stardom in the television world.
During the interview, Mohsin revealed an interesting fact about how he landed the role of Kartik. Initially, he was offered a different character in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. He explained, “Not many people know this, but there was originally a character of Kartik’s elder brother. My first mock shoot was with Naira and this elder brother character. The elder brother was supposed to become the main hero later. I was told about two characters—Kartik, who was fun and lively, and his elder brother, who was a strict man with a strained relationship with his father, having returned from studying abroad. I felt more connected to Kartik and decided to audition for that role instead.”
Despite being asked by the production team to consider auditioning for Kartik’s older brother, Mohsin was determined to play Kartik, even if it meant not being the lead. Eventually, the show’s creators decided to remove the elder brother character entirely, focusing instead on the dynamic between Kartik and Naira, making them the central characters.
Reflecting on how the role of Kartik came to him, Mohsin shared, “After finishing Dream Girl, I had cut my hair short. Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai was calling for auditions, but I was hesitant because of my short hair. A few months later, they were still auditioning, and by then, my hair had grown back. I decided to go for it, and that’s when I met Rajan Sir and the rest of the team. The mock shoot happened, and the rest is history.”
Mohsin also spoke about his character, Kartik, expressing how the role has become an inseparable part of his life. He recounted that before Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, he had small roles in shows like Nisha Aur Uske Cousins, Dream Girl, and Meri Aashiqui Tumse Hi. These early roles, regardless of screen time, marked the beginning of his journey in the entertainment industry.
On the first day of shooting for Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Mohsin recalled that it took place in Rishikesh rather than the main sets. He humorously shared a memory from that day: he had recently been in an accident and had informed the producers that riding a bike might be difficult for him. Ironically, his very first scene involved riding a bike. He laughed as he remembered, “My first scene was on a bike, but I managed to pull it off somehow.”
