JD Majethia talks about his experience of trekking to the Everest Base Camp
Actor and director Jamnadas Majethia aka JD who is currently at the Mount Everest Base Camp is super excited to have checked a major adventure on his bucket list. During a recent interview, JD talked about the trek, his inspiration behind the adventure, and the experience of being there.
He said, “Trekking to the Everest base had always been on my bucket list, but something or the other came up – be it an injury or hectic shooting schedules. The trip continued to take a backseat until I saw the Amitabh Bachchan-Anupam Kher-Boman Irani film Uunchai. The film inspired me to pack my gear and set off on accomplishing one of my dreams. To be honest, this is the best decision I have taken because the experience has been enriching. Every moment has been a learning experience and of course, extremely adventurous. In the beginning, we were a group of five who decided to go on the trek. However, everyone backed out except me and the trip turned out to be a solo escapade. I then met a group of like-minded adventure junkies, who have been with me throughout the camp, and we all have been each other’s support during challenging levels.”
Talking about his prep, JD shared, “Such difficult treks require intense training, but I didn’t take any formal training. I started practicing and following a certain routine to improve my breathing since that is the most important thing when you’re off to higher altitudes. I have always been very conscientious about my health and fitness, and this trek has motivated me to push myself even more now.”
He added, “Reaching Mount Everest Base Camp is challenging as it is almost 7,000 feet above the sea level. I had a very rough 28 hours recently. We were supposed to go to Gorakshep, which is higher than the EBC (Everest Base Camp), but my health deteriorated a little. I consulted a doctor in Mumbai as I found blood in my stool, but that did not stop me from continuing my journey towards Gorakshep with a trekker-friend. As for age, I don’t think it matters! I believe it is all about the will of a person. I am 57, and I have just ticked an item off my bucket list, and I feel so satisfied. I am planning to take up more challenges now and try checking off as many things as possible from my bucket list.”
