Stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui recently sought permission from the Delhi Police regarding his show in central Delhi. Delhi Police has now rejected his request in order to maintain communal harmony in the city. According to the reports, Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Thursday wrote a letter to Delhi Police commissioner and urged him not to permit his show.
According to police, the permission was cancelled as the event can disturb the peace and communal harmony in the area. The event was scheduled at Kedarnath Stadium in Civic Centre on August 28.
Delhi Police who earlier granted permission for the previous show by the same event management company from west Delhi shared “After receiving the report, we immediately cancelled the permission and the organisers were informed. We cannot let any disturbance in law and order of the city.”
VHP Delhi unit chief Surendra Kumar Gupta wrote a letter to the commissioner on Thursday, demanding to stop the show. He wrote, “He makes fun of Hindu gods and goddesses in his show due to which communal tension flared up in Bhagyanagar recently. I request you to cancel his show immediately, otherwise, VHP and Bajrang Dal workers will stop the show.”
Meanwhile, Hindu Sena has also written a letter to Delhi Police and MCD commissioner for cancelling Munawar’s show.
