Juhi Parmar who is known to speak her mind out without mincing her words recently sparked off a debate when she said that some women were dressing in a way which is as good as undressing.
Though Juhi didn’t take any names but shared a series of questions on this topic. In a recent interview with BT, Juhi talked about it and shared, “When you scroll through social media, there are always these handful of posts which have girls not dressed in the best manner. I mean yes, for example wearing a bikini on a beach is fine, but why does one need to flaunt a bikini all the time? In fact, there are some people who I will not name, but who have literally taken to the streets with absolutely minimal clothing. Be it in restaurants or just walking on the road, these people are dressing atrociously. I understand that we are currently living in a generation where one can wear what they want to, but there has to be some kind of a line drawn. Eventually, it is not about wearing a bikini or short clothes, but more about the hideous dressing that is not okay!”
She added, “I was always prepared for people calling me intrusive, regressive, even using terms like aunty and old-fashioned, but honestly I really want to question what modernism actually means. Is dressing hideously or inappropriate dressing only considered being modern? Is this the modern society that we want, is this what we want to see our children growing up with? Would we be comfortable dressing like that in front of our parents? And when people talk about personal choices when it comes to dressing, I get that and I am not being judgemental, but are plunging necklines and skimpy clothing required all the time?”
Juhi concluded by saying, “Some people even said online that if I had the body I may have also done the same, but I would like to tell them that even when I was a 17-year-old and later and 30 with the best body, I never did such a thing then. Also, getting into that body shape even today is not a tough task for me. I can work on it, but I will still not do anything of that sort.”
