The next morning Shona took more time than usual to come down. This unusualness made me scared. So I decided to run upstairs. But then as it is said “THINK OF THE DEVIL AND DEVIL APPEARS”. Same thing happened with my Shona. She came down.
She seems dull. Maybe, she cried. She is coming to the breakfast table. It might rain today. “Hi, Shona, How are feeling?

In a low voice, “Mr. Maheshwari,”
“Until you call me Sanskar, I don’t plan on responding.”
“I don’t plan on calling you that.” She didn’t make her voice sterner like she usually does.
“Then, I am not talking.”
“How Old Are You Anyway To Act Like A Child? Fine, Will, is there a medical shop nearby?” She looked wobbly. She supported her head.
“Am twenty five. You act too much of an adult to say I act like a child. Nope. You need to go some blocks away for it. Why?”
“I need some medicines. Can you tell me where it is?” Strange! Medicines?
“I have some. For what do you need medicines?”
“Fever.”
“Fever? You have got fever? Here, let me check. (Fever! No wonder she was quiet and is eating breakfast here.) Shona, you are burning up. What are you doing moving around? You should be lying in bed.”
“It is nothing. 102-103 F is tolerable. I need to go out. So, can you give me the tablets or tell me where the pharmacy is?”
“102-103 F! Wait. Let me get the thermometer. Here, check it. Eat at least four bread toasts and go to bed. I will bring you the tablets.” She got up.
“PLEASE DON’T MAKE A FUSS… (Thermometer pushed into the mouth) I NEED TO GO OUT. I CAN’T STAY AND SLEEP.” She was angry but she sat down immediately after she shouted. She must be feeling dizzy with the fever.
“Don’t talk. Tablets, tablets, where did I keep them.Yes I got it,Now, your temperature, 104 F. If it keeps increasing, you might die.”
“Don’t worry. I won’t die so easily. Anyway, I need to get going.” I blocked her way.
“No. You are not going anywhere. Get to bed, Right Now. Who will answer Varun, if you faint on the road? Here, eat them.”
“Thanks. Bye.” She pushed me off.

“Shona. Listen to me.” She turned around, her face showed her annoyance.
“YOU LISTEN TO ME, I CANNOT MISS WORK. I HAVE NEVER CANCELLED A MEETING AND I DON’T INTEND TO. YOU CAN STAY HERE AND DO WHAT YOU WANT. YOU HAVE PEOPLE TO COVER FOR YOU AT WORK. I NEED TO WORK AND CAN’T SEND A SUBSTITUTE, OK?” She looked like she was about to fall.
“Shona!!!” She couldn’t stand on her feet. She supported herself but holding the wall. She can get me angry and worried at the same time. She turned her back to me and started walking ahead. I stopped her.
Where do you have your meeting, asked Sanskar.
“Just one. Why do you ask????????” Before she could finish her sentence, I carried her to the car. “Since you said I have people to cover for me, I am going to use them. I am staying with you all day.” She looked baffled.
“I don’t need your help.” She tried to get out of the car but, I stopped her.
“Sick people should just accept what is offered to them. Where are you meeting them?”
“Do you do this to all the sick people?” I could understand her sarcasm but somehow, I just don’t know why I am doing this. I must say, I am hopeless.

“I just don’t like it when people are sick. So, where is the meeting?”
“In their office. Here is the address.” She pushed back the car seat and closed her eyes.
“We aren’t resisting now, are we?”
She didn’t even move. “You are not going to listen to what I say. So, why should I waste my precious energy fighting you? I might as well use it in the meeting.”
“Sleep till we get there.”
Sanskar drove her where she was having meeting and was waiting for her in the car.
