Chapter 54

Night Sanskar’s study

He was impatiently waiting for her in his study but when she didn’t turn up he decided to visit her personally… hurriedly he strode out of the study and moved towards her room. As he entered inside, found her sitting at her study table, putting something inside an envelope.
Swara: (looking at him) Oh, Mr. Maheshwari I was coming to you, good you came
Her tone was so formal as if she was talking to a stranger not to the man she slept in whose arms couple of days ago….. Sanskar was scanning her every expression, just to get more restless…. She came up to where he was standing…..
Swara: (passing that envelope to him) actually I want to give you this…
Sanskar: (taking it from her) what is this?
Swara: (blank face) my resignation…..
Sanskar: what!!!
Her words leaved him astound, with shocking expression he looked at her
Swara: yes, it’s my resignation….. I want to go back
Sanskar: (annoyed) are you out of your senses? Do you know what you are talking? You can’t leave like this…..
Swara: off course I can….. I didn’t pledge to serve you forever…
Sanskar: (coming close to her) Swara what happened? Everything was fine till yesterday then what went wrong?
Swara: nothing happen, I want to go……. Why you are shocked, you knew it from the beginning, I committed for a year only…..
Sanskar: but it is just six months to you!!
Swara: I need time for my studies, it’s becoming difficult for me to manage it with this job…..
Sanskar: (dazed) Swara I know this is not true, why you are giving me such lame excuses and have you thought about Siya? Do you have any idea how she gonna live without you?
Swara: (hiding her tears) believe it or not but these are not lame excuses and about Siya initially it would be difficult for her but with time she will accept it, after all one day I have to leave and it would be better as early as it is possible….
He couldn’t believe this is the same girl who can’t bear a single tear in Siya’s eyes….
Sanskar: (holding her hand) Swara, is there anything troubling you? If you have any confusion we can talk about it, share it with me, I will help you….
Swara: (sarcastic smile) you have already done so much for me, please don’t burden me with your beneficence. And there is no confusion, everything is absolutely clear…. I want to focus on my carrier and my studies which is not possible with this job, that’s it…..
Her every word hurting him more, he couldn’t believe her drastic change of decision over a few days…..
Sanskar: (disappointed) how could you be so heartless Swara??
She could sense the resentment in his voice “He is calling me heartless and what he did with me, was it benevolence, because of him I have to make Siya suffer” she was cursing him silently. Getting no response from her, he asked “Why are you doing all this?”
She gave him a disgusted look as he finished. Although she decided not to indulge in any argument or fight, all she wanted to end it as maturely as she could but his words irked her. She couldn’t have it anymore, it’s time to outburst…..
Swara: (yelled) you want to know the truth, why I am doing this!!! it’s because of you. You have messed up everything for me. Do you have any idea how I have been living through all the past weeks because of your so called love confession… you turned my life to hell, ruining everything…..
The tears she thought not to shed again for this man sprung in her eyes…. Wiping it off, she composed herself….. Sanskar was stunned over her sudden outburst, he was blank…. He couldn’t let his love go like that…..
Sanskar: (touching her cheek) really Swara, you think like this….don’t you see how much I love you, I need you in my life, please don’t leave me….
Swara was not at all impressed by his words, rather it kindled the anger more, she jerked his hand away from her face….
Swara: don’t dare to touch me again….. and off course, how could I miss your desperation to keep me here with you but let me correct, it’s not because of your love…… come on be a man and accept the truth….
Sanskar: (angrily holding her arm) How many times should I tell you Swara, I love you….
Swara: (loudly) I know what you love Mr. Sanskar Maheshwari, you are not looking for a soul mate in me instead a permanent mother for your daughter and a sleeping partner for yourself who can be your puppet and fulfill your every desire….
Sanskar: (shouted) ENOUGH…..
He roared like a wounded lion, which made her gasp….
Sanskar: (angrily) enough of your non-sense Swara, no more words, you are going to shut up and listen to me until I am done…. If you can’t love me back, you have no right to insult my feelings….. I was foolish to have expected you to love me. You were right, you don’t love me because if you would, have never compared my love with lust….. The biggest mistake of my life was to fall for a girl who couldn’t respect my true feelings. But now, it’s enough. I am tired of all this….. now no more efforts, no more persuasions for me, I had enough of your tantrums….. you are not worthy of any of this, I am giving up on you….
You want to leave na, you are free to leave. I promise no one will bother you or ask for any clarification. And as far as Siya is concerned, I will handle her. My daughter is my responsibility…. She is been with me for 7 years, a much longer time than your presence in her life. With my love and care surely I will be able to erase these few months from her life like it never existed…
Swara was listening to all this like a statue, body and brain was numb, there were no tears in her eyes… they were blank and devoid of emotion…. Never in her bad dreams had she thought he would ever say such things to her…. although unintentionally but she was at the fault this time….
“Enjoy your freedom” he said giving a last indignant look to her and strode out of the room….. She was stilled in her place, looking to his disappearing figure….

Night, 1:00 am, Sanskar’s room

He was in the balcony, resting back on the couch… holding a cigarette in his hand, beside him was an ashtray suffused with ash, he has been continuously smoking the moment he stepped in…. the night of darkest despair of his life….

Sanskar’s POV

I was right love is nothing but pain. Why I became fool to fall in this trap. I was much happier earlier with my life. Swara you broke my heart today, instead all my efforts I couldn’t make you believe that I love you… a winner in every game of business and money turned out a big looser in the game of life. Why did you come in my life and give me all sorts of hopes when you have to leave like this? But I won’t stop you now, if you want this, surely it will happen…. It’s love when all you want is that person to be happy, even if you are not part of this happiness. And I loved you truly. So you are free now, hope you get a better person than me, whom you could believe and trust and moreover love back

Night, 2:00 am, Swara’s room

She was sitting on the floor with a blank face, her hands were freezing…. Slow heart beats making it difficult for her to breathe…
“Why you are distressed now, this is what you wanted…. You wanted to expunge him from your life, now he walked out. You are free dear, all free…. Come on be happy, and celebrate your win…. He will never bother you again with his sarcastic comments and teasing, never show his possessiveness and over concern for you which irritates you the most…. Again your life will be as peaceful as it was…. Don’t feel guilty, get ready to start your new life, without him around….” Her subconscious was talking to her but a part of her was unhappy, hell unhappy…. She thought to be calm after getting freed by him but not, rather turned more restless….there was no escape from her own miseries….

Afternoon, Office, Sanskar’s cabin

“bhai, what’s all this?” Laksh stepped in anxiously
Sanskar: (looking at him) what??
Laksh: you asked Prateek to find a new governess for Siya?
Sanskar: (flipping the files) yeah, so what?
Laksh: (shocked) so what!!! Are you out of your senses?
Sanskar: don’t over react Lucky, if the present employee wants to leave it’s obvious you will look for a new one….
Laksh: what!! Swara is leaving? But why?
Sanskar didn’t answer rather pretended to involve in his files….
Laksh: (softly) Did you and Swara have fight? Tell me I will talk to her…
Sanskar: No lucky I don’t want you to do that….
Laksh: ok fine, Ragini or mom can talk to her… she will understand…
Sanskar: (stern voice) No one will talk to her or try to manipulate her…. instead I want not to bring up this matter again at home or anywhere, forget it like I did….
Laksh looked at his brother’s blank face, but he knew he was hiding his pain beneath those layers of determination….
Laksh: (coldly) So, this was your determination?? How can you give up?
Sanskar: Lucky I told you I don’t want to talk about it, let me do my work….
Laksh: (angrily) Fine, do what you want….. But you will regret it one day…..
Leaving Sanskar with these words he walked out of the room…..
“I am regretting my brother, regret of falling in love, regret of expressing my feelings…. I wish it would have never happened” he thought looking outside the window pane blankly…..

Evening, Swara’s room

She didn’t come down for breakfast not even for lunch, Ragini and Annapurna both were worried, they thought to give a check…. As they entered saw Swara lying on the bed like a lifeless body, Ragini touched her hand and horrified to feel the temperature….. Swara was almost unconscious…
Ragini: (looking at Annapurna) mom, she is burning!!!
Annapurna: (touching her forehead) call the doctor first and then inform Sanskar….
She quickly moved to her room to make a call…. Within 15 minutes, doctor was there examining Swara
Ragini: what happened to her?
Doctor: it’s a high fever….
Annapurna: she was all fine yesterday….
Doctor: might be due to weather change….but don’t worry, she will be fine soon, just need little care and few precautions….
He injected Swara and then prescribed the medicines, explaining the prescription to Ragini he left….
Annapurna: (sitting next to Swara) Ragini, have you called Sanskar?
Ragini: yes Mom….
Annapurna: he must be on the way then…
Ragini: (sadly) No mom, he is not coming….
Annapurna: (shocked) what!!
Ragini: he has an important meeting after half an hour so he can’t come…..
Not only Annapurna but Ragini was also equally surprised to see Sanskar’s cold behavior towards this….

At office, Sanskar’s cabin

The moment he got Ragini’s call, he was restless and uneasy…. Although he refused to be there but in real all he immediately wanted to rush out and see her….

Sanskar’s POV

Is it because I yelled at her so badly last night? She is in this condition because of me…. Swara you are making it more difficult for me, when my harsh words affect you like this then why you are pretending to be unaffected? I hate this helplessness, I wanted to be with you but I can’t…. you need to be strong Sanskar, don’t let emotions over power you again…. Don’t worry she will be fine….

Life was so easy for him, when he was love deprived…. This feeling brought nothing but enormous ache and pain for him along with the illusion of little happiness….
