Chapter 41

Afternoon, Maheshwari Mansion

Annapurna and Sujata were there in the Kitchen, as it was a weekend and much to their delight all members of the family are at home. They were busy in instructing Kaushalya and other servants about the preparations when Sharmishtha stepped in…..
Annapurna: Sharmishtha ji, you are here!! Do you need anything?
Sharmishtha: (hesitant) actually I want to make Shona’s favorite dishes…. It’s been a long she had it, so if you allow me….it’s a vegetarian dish
Sujata: (looking at Annapurna) off course Sharmishtha ji, you are welcome in our kitchen…..and though most of us in our family are vegetarian but there is no such restriction….. you are free to cook anything, either vegetarian or non-veg…..
Sharmishtha: (smiles) thank you so much
Annapurna: well, we would appreciate if you cook something vegetarian also because I have heard a lot about your cooking skills from Swara and being a big foodie I don’t want to miss this opportunity….
Sujata: I agree with jiji…
Sharmishtha: (cheerfully) off- course, why not….. (Guilty eyes) actually I want to apologize for my earlier behavior, I was so furious with the news and Shona’s behavior that I lost my senses….. I am really sorry
Annapurna: don’t be sorry Sharmishtha ji, it was obvious and being a mother I can understand your situation…

Afternoon, Sanskar’s study room

He was trying to concentrate on the work but his mind was flooded with her thoughts…
“Did she really think I am short-tempered and hyper? Why she felt like this because I always yell at her but what can I do, she is the one who provokes me to do that….. And how could she forget about my apologies? Didn’t she remember how many times I said sorry to her in these few months? Swaraaa!! Why you always confuse me? One moment your actions compel me to believe that you feel for me and at other you make me restless with your words….” He was deeply involved in his thoughts
“Mr. Maheshwari” Swara’s voice startled him, she was standing next to him
Sanskar: (looking at her) what the hell! When did you come?
Swara: (upset) just now… I have knocked, twice but you were lost in something….
Sanskar: (confused) is it so??
Swara: (annoyed) what do you think, I am lying??
Sanskar: I didn’t mean that Swara, it’s just that you popped up from nowhere…. I didn’t expecting it…
Swara: I am sorry…..
Disappointment crawled over her face, she looked at him with sad eyes and turned to move out but he held her wrist before she could take a step

Sanskar: (softly) wait, don’t you want to say for what you came??
Swara: I will come later….
Sanskar: (bossy tone) No, I want to hear it now….
Swara: actually I want to thank you, Ma told me how you convinced her…..
Sanskar: (happy) So, she is no more upset with you!!
Swara: NO……..
Sanskar: well, that’s good…. I hope now you will change your opinion about me, I am not only short-tempered and hyper, sometimes I am sensible and good at persuasion also
Swara: I am sorry for last night, I never intent to hurt you….
Sanskar: (stern voice) and what if you did???
Swara was guilty for her behavior, she knew she did wrong…. He came to comfort her and she lashed out at him in her frustration…. Now there was nothing she could do, the damage was done…. He noticed her eyes brimmed with tears, the tears of guilt….. he stood up abruptly and wrapped her in his arms….
Sanskar: (softly) hey…. I wasn’t accusing you Swara, I just said it without much thought…. You shouldn’t have to feel guilty….
Swara: (innocently) you are not upset with me??
Sanskar: (smiles) what do you think, Do I look like?

She looked up to him straight in his eyes, his eyes were soft, full of concern and love…. She noticed it but couldn’t able to believe…. Their eyes caught in one another, they were close…. It was always something magical for them when they are close to each other….. He moved his face little closer to her and in anticipation of what coming next she closed her eyes, This brought a smile on his face, to suppress his emotions he closed his eyes for a second “Swara I can’t tell you how impatiently I wanted to touch you whenever you are close to me but I have to control myself, now I will touch you the day I confess my love” he promised himself looking at Swara, her eyes were still close…. He softly pecked her forehead and she opened her eyes as she felt his touch, he was smiling at her…..
Sanskar: (whispered) I could never stay upset with you for long….
His words made her blush, she averted her gaze from him…. They were enjoying the pleasure of being in each other’s proximity oblivious of an unknown gaze fixed at them….it was Sharmishtha who witnessed all this, at first she was shocked but then a smile adorned her lips… the way they were lost in one another was enough for her to figure out what’s going on between them….
“Sorry Shona for spoiling your special moment but I have to be a spoilsport” she murmured with a smile, taking a few steps back so they can’t see her, she stood there, took a deep breath and shouted “Shona! Where are you?”

The loud voice broke their trance…. Swara was little frightened to hear her mother’s voice, she hastily strode out of the room leaving him there with a smile…..

Afternoon, dining hall

All gathered there for lunch, excited for the Sunday special….. Kaushalya and Mithu were arranging dishes on the table for everyone….
Laksh: (coming towards) wow! It smelling so yum mom…. What’s the menu today?
Annapurna: (smile at his excitement) well dear today is the special Bengoli menu….. Sharmishtha ji specially prepared it for Swara….
Sharmishtha: it’s not only for Swara but for everyone….
Laksh: (playfully) thank you so much aunty, otherwise these days everyone is showering their love on Swara only, hai na Bhai
Laksh’s teasing words brought a smile on faces of all Maheshwaries except one. Sanskar with killing looks staring his brother…..
Ragini: aunty, please don’t mind his words….. He is little weird
Swara: Ragini!!! Ma he is not weird, Laksh is the nicest person you will ever know…..
Sanskar: (to himself) everyone is so nice for her except me, I can’t fathom out why she never praise me?
Laksh: Thank’s Swara…. I am highly obliged by your praise…..
Annapurna: Laksh!! Now stop your drama and let everyone eat…..
Laksh: (whispering) Bhai don’t get jealous…..
Sanskar: shut up Lucky, I am not jealous…

Evening, Swara’s room

Swara was laying in her mother’s lap peacefully, they were continuously talking since hours…. Sharing each and every single detail of these few months of their separation…. Swara told her about being everyone so nice with her in his family….. How they gave her the love and care when she was in hospital…. In a flow Swara blurt out everything about Sanskar from the beginning that how he always argues and fights with her…. Initially she disliked him a lot but later she discovered he is a man with golden heart…. Swara shocked to know that her mother knows about Sanskar’s past and his relation with Siya even before she told her, on asking she came to know that Sanjeet knew all this from the beginning, it was surprising for her…
Swara: (puzzled) Ma if uncle knew all this why he never told me??
Sharmishtha: I don’t know but may be because it is something personal so he thought it would be better if you find out it on your own…

Swara: Perhaps…
Sharmishtha: but I am really impressed by Sanskar, he is a very nice boy…. So mature and sensible, a perfect man in every sense…. What do you think Shona?
She deliberately asked Swara about this as she wanted her daughter to confess about her feelings but it wasn’t easy to dig the truth out of her…
Swara: (blushed) hmmm he is….
Sharmishtha: (caressing her hair) Shona, is there anything you want to share with your Ma….
Swara: (bemused) why are you asking this Ma?
Sharmishtha: (playful smile) nothing serious, I thought since you are here for so many months, might be you met with someone, someone special….. Is there anything like this?
Swara: (avoiding her gaze) Maaa…. You are impossible…. Stop your speculations, it’s nothing like that…
Sharmishtha: (laughing) but Shona you cou….

Before they could get into that talk deeper Siya came there…..
Siya: (standing at door) Shona di, may I come in??
Swara: (turning to her) Siya you!! Come my bacha…
Swara adjusted herself on the bed getting up from her mother’s lap, Siya came and sat next to Swara… she was little uneasy in Sharmishtha’s presence, Swara noticed it…
Swara: (taking siya on her lap) Ma this is Siya, my best buddy over here….. You both met before but not properly….
Sharmishtha: (patting her cheek) Siya you are very pretty…. Swara told me everything about you, thank you for taking care of my daughter…
Siya: (cheerfully) you are also pretty but not more than Shona di….
Both Swara and Sharmishtha laughed at her words…. Swara kissed her cheek lovingly, taking her into a tight hug… “but you are most beautiful my princess” she said… Sharmishtha could see Swara’s motherly love towards Siya and their beautiful bonding, this love and care was mutual…. With Teary eyes she was admiring both of them, these were the tears of satisfaction….. Satisfaction of seeing her daughter happy after so long….
